Anyway most of EU citizens just carry their ID cards with them, some do not even have passports and, anyway, we tend to store our passports at home in the cupboard in case we travel to places like USA etc.

Today, I entered my driving theory test and passed it so I was in a good mood. While I was shopping at my local Sainsbury’s I saw a good deal on the sparkling wines and decided to buy two for a price of one.

The shop assistant asked for a proof of identity as the shop policy requires her to check everyone who looks under 25 whether he or she is over 18 (I admit I do look young and I get asked for an ID almost everywhere).

When I presented my national ID to the shop assistant, “Sorry we do not accept ID cards – only passports and British driving licenses” the shop assistant said to me.

On my national ID you can clearly see my picture and my date of birth so I could not understand why they would not accept it since they only needed to make sure that I was over 18.

“But this is my national ID card issued by the Republic of Cyprus and you can see here that I am 24 years old” – “Sorry, I cannot accept it!”

Why is the ID accepted to enter the country, to open a UK bank account, to vote in local UK and European elections but it is really not accepted to proof your age in a supermarket?

Why is an UK ID (they do not actually have an ID, it is the driving licence) acceptable and ID’s of other nations are not?

Unfortunately I know that this was not a decision of a couple of stubborn employees but was the official company policy since they showed me the official papers. This is even more disappointing.

It is the first time I genuinely felt racially discriminated against in the UK. I think this is ridiculous and I wonder whether there is any EU/national legislation which could be used in this case…

According to timesonline.com the slogan says “an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away”, : “Health promotion experts advocate five portions of fruit and veg a day and 30 minutes’ physical activity three times a week. What about sex or masturbation twice a week?”

Is it right to advise school pupil to have sex and say that there is nothing wrong with it ? What about the fact that women have increased risk of having cervical cancer when they start having sex at an early age?

I understand the concerns over increased rate of sexually  transmitted diseases,  pregnancies at very young ages and the need for sexual education but I believe this campaign is not a useful one.

Bugun facebookta bir arkadasimin uye oldugu bir grup dikkatimi cekti. KKTC’de Kur’an kursu istemiyoruz. Gruba uye olduktan sonra internette durumla ilgili bir arastirma yaptim ve sonuc olarak KKTC’de kur’an kurslarinin acildigini ogrendim. Bunun uzerine Kibris Gazetesi’ne bir yorum yazdim ve bu yorumu buraya ekliyorum.

Kibris’li bir genc olarak okudugum haberle buyuk bir uzuntu duydum.  Her konuda bagimsizligini yitirmis ve ilerleyegi yere ne yazik ki geri adim atiyor ulkemin gun gectikce aldigi hal o kadar uzuntu verici ki!

Ilk once belirtmek isterim ki dort yillik universite egitimimi Turkiye’de aldim ve kesinlikle insanlari turkiyeli ingiliz kibrisli diye ayirt etmedigim gibi herkesin dinine sonsuz saygi duymaktayim. Fakat gercek su ki KKTC’de kur’an kursu baslatilmasinin arkasinda cok farkli gercekler yatmaktatir.

Din Isleri Bakani  görevlerinin yaygın eğitim içerisinde İslam konusunda Kıbrıs Türk halkını aydınlatmak olduğunu söylemis fakat Kibris Turk halki Islam konusunda aydinlatilmak istemiyor.

Kuran kursları Kıbrıs Türk halkının talebi degil ancak KKTC’de yasayan Turk halkinin talebi olabilir.

Durum ne yazik ki cok net bir sekilde ortadadir. Turkiye’de oldugu gibi siyasetle dinin butunlesmesiyle ortaya cikan rezalettir bu.

Bunlara dur diyecek biri yok mu? Eminim herkes en az benim kadar durumun farkinda , peki neden harekete gecen yok? Secimlerde secilmek icin bir suru vaat veren siyasi liderlerin gucu sadece vaat verdikleri kisileri bir ise sokmaya mi yetiyor?

KKTC halkinin kur’an kursuna degil iyi bir egitim sistemi, iyi bir saglik sistemi ve iyi bir ekonomisi olan bir ulkeye ihtiyaci var.
